MONTREAL, 24 June 2003 — Roy Halladay won his 11th consecutive start and Vernon Wells homered for the fourth straight day to steer the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Expos in Interleague play on Sunday.
Halladay (11-2) went eight innings, despite pitching on three days rest for the first time in his career, to set a team record with his 11th win in a row.
He allowed two unearned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks before Cliff Politte pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save of the season.
Wells struck his 19th homer of the season in the first inning, a two-run shot, and added an RBI single in the fifth to stretch his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games.
Mike Bordick had two hits and drove in Toronto’s other run while Reed Johnson had three hits.
Livan Hernandez (6-6) took the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Orlando Cabrera drove in both Montreal runs.

In Oakland, Miguel Tejada cracked a three-run homer to give the Athletics a 6-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Eric Chavez drove in two runs and Erubiel Durazo also homered as the A’s won two of the three games in the Bay series. Ted Lilly (5-5) allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings before Keith Foulke pitched the ninth for his 19th save of the season.

In Chicago, Ramon Martinez and Corey Patterson drove in eighth-inning runs to rally the Cubs past the White Sox 2-1.
Carlos Zambrano (6-6) allowed one run on six hits over eight innings for the win. Joe Borowski pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the season as the Cubs avoided a three-game series sweep.

In Philadelphia, Brett Myers tossed a complete game three-hit shutout as the Phillies defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-0.
Myers (6-6) struck out five and walked three. Jimmy Rollins, Bobby Abreu and Marlon Byrd all homered for Philadelphia.
Byung-Hyun Kim (2-6) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings.

In Atlanta, Jeff Conine had three hits and drove in three runs as the Baltimore Orioles overcame the Braves 9-3.
Luis Matos homered, had three hits and drove in two runs for Baltimore while BJ Surhoff added three hits and two RBI. Jason Johnson (6-3) went 5 1/3 innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits. Pat Hentgen added 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the first save of his 12-year career. Shane Reynolds (5-2) was the loser, going 4 1/3 innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits.

In Pittsburgh, Casey Blake had three hits and drove in two runs to guide the Cleveland Indians to an 8-5 triumph over the Pirates. CC Sabathia (7-3) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. Danys Baez pitched a scoreless ninth for his 16th save of the season while Matt Lawton and Milton Bradley both drove in two runs.

In Miami, Mike Lowell homered as the Florida Marlins made the most of two hits to edge the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3-2.
Carl Pavano (6-8) went 7 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. Braden Looper claimed the last four outs for his 13th save of the season.

In Milwaukee, Denny Hocking had three hits including a homer as the Minnesota Twins avoided a series sweep by beating the Brewers 8-3. Corey Koskie, Torii Hunter and Justin Morneau also homered for the Twins.

In St. Louis, Jeremy Affeldt pitched 6 2/3 strong innings and had an RBI single as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Cardinals 5-2. Affeldt (4-3) gave up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Mike MacDougal pitched the ninth for his 16th save of the season while Ken Harvey homered and had two hits.

In Denver, Charles Johnson drove in two runs as the Colorado Rockies squeezed by the Detroit Tigers 5-3.
Denny Neagle (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.

In Los Angeles, Garret Anderson hit a two-run homer as the Anaheim Angels cooled off Kevin Brown and the Dodgers 6-3. Adam Kennedy had three hits and drove in a run for the Angels while Kevin Appier (5-4) allowed one run on seven hits over five innings.

In San Diego, Jake Peavy pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings as the Padres beat Seattle 3-1, taking two of three games from the Mariners. Peavy (7-5) allowed four hits. Rod Beck pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season while Brian Buchanan homered.

In New York, Enrique Wilson’s two-run double highlighted a four-run 11th inning as the Yankees overcame the Mets 7-3.
Hideki Matsui homered for the Yankees, who tied the game on Jorge Posada’s bases-loaded walk in the ninth. Alfonso Soriano had three hits and drove in a run.

In Arlington, Lance Berkman homered and drove in two runs as the Houston Astros downed the Texas Rangers 3-1. Jose Vizcaino tripled in Houston’s other run. Jeriome Robertson (5-3) allowed one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings before Billy Wagner pitched the ninth for his 21st save of the season.

In Phoenix, Steve Finley hit a three-run homer to rally the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-5 National League victory over Cincinnati on Sunday, their 14th straight win over the Reds.
Four relievers combined on four scoreless innings as Arizona (38-36) completed its first series sweep of the season to move within six games of Los Angeles and San Francisco for the NL West lead. The Diamondbacks were down 5-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Finley crushed a 1-0 offering from Ryan Dempster over the right field fence to get Arizona within a run.
Arizona then scored twice in the seventh off Kent Mercker (0-1), who failed to retire any of the four batters he faced.
