RIYADH, 26 June 2003 — Gerry Pedradilla is not an accountant but when he finally goes home “for good” and makes his dream of becoming a businessman come true, he will have little need for an accountant.
After all, he now knows the basics of the profession, thanks to the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) of Riyadh.
PICPA, one of the biggest Philippine professional group with chapters in many parts of the world, offered a series of seminars on accounting for non-accountants, as well as on business planning and preparation of a feasibility study, last month at the Second Philippine International School (SPIS.
On Friday, the group will fete Pedradilla and 101 others with a certificate of completion at the Riyadh Palace Hotel, with Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla as guest speaker. The event starts at 4 p.m.
Pedradilla said that with the stability of his employment having been shaken with the current Saudization program in the Kingdom, “it is prudent to make a long-range plan to ensure a successful reintegration (at home) by going into business.” Pedradilla had also been attending seminars on entrepreneurship being conducted by the Ofwins, of which he is a member.
PICPA-Riyadh Chapter president Rolly Bermundo said the courses they are offering is in support of the reintegration program of the Philippine government for returning Filipino migrant workers.
“The seminar is intended to prepare fellow Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) by teaching them the basic principles of accounting and the usefulness of the recorded data in decision making to enable them to join the mainstream of Filipino entrepreneurs,” Bermundo said.
Aside from the graduation ceremony, the chapter will also hold a general membership meeting and a seminar on ?stress management,î which will be conducted by Ron I. Jacobe.
“The seminar is good for workaholic employees who have no time to relax,” Bermundo assured.
