CAIRO, 1 July 2003 — A court of appeal in Egypt has cut a prison sentence for Egyptian actress Wafa Maki to three years. Wafa was convicted of physically assaulting two teenagers, 13 and 15, employed as maids in her house. The actress greeted the decision with relief. “Thank God. I am so happy,” she said. Al-Sharq Al-Awsat said.
“That means I have only 90 days left before I am released. Wafa had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting the two girls back in 2001.
