JEDDAH, 1 July 2003 — The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced yesterday the appointment of Muhammad A. Al-Sharief as its secretary general and Saud Ounallah to take charge of its newly created post of director general.

Al-Sharief has been acting secretary general since the resignation of Dr. Majed Al-Kassabi seven months ago.

JCCI Chairman Adel Faqeeh said the board decided to appoint Al-Sharief after reviewing his work since assuming charge in his acting capacity. “Al-Sharief has done a good job and so we’re delighted to regularize him in the position.”

Faqeeh said the JCCI had been restructured and divided into various committees. “While Al-Sharief will be concentrating on the government sector and international relations, Ounallah will be looking after development of member services and activating Jeddah economically in support of its image as the Kingdom’s commercial center.”

He thanked the board members and businessmen registered with the chamber for their contribution and said he sought their continued support.

Al-Sharief said he was grateful to the board for reposing their trust in him. “With the cooperation of all executives and staff of the chamber, I hope to serve the business sector in particular and Jeddah in general,” he said.
