RIYADH, 2 July 2003 — The search for Binibining Bicolandia 2003 is on.
A project of the Bicol Saro nin Riyadh in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy and other Bicolano groups in Saudi Arabia, the popularity contest is expected to draw participants from Filipinos all over the Kingdom. The search runs from July 11 to Oct. 17.
“Bb. Bicolandia is a popularity contest to raise funds to be used to help fellow OFWs who are stranded and distressed, and ultimately to forge a sense of unity among Bicolanos in the Kingdom,” Bicol Saro nin Riyadh president Danny Encinas said as he declared the search open last week.
Last year, Bicol Saro nin Riyadh spent about SR23,000 to help alleviate the misery of a number of OFWs, Encinas said. He said the group also helped send home 15 stranded OFWs.
The Social Workers Association in Jeddah (Bicol Federation) and the United Bicolanos of Alkhobar have thrown their support and cooperation with this year?s search other Bicolano organizations are expected to join shortly, Encinas added.
To qualify as Bb. Bicolandia 2003, contestants must be single OFWs or dependents of OFWs, and willing and ready to help promote the social and humanitarian undertakings of Bicolano organizations in Saudi Arabia.
Bb. Bicolandia 2003 participants will be honored at festivities to be held at the embassy on Oct. 17.
