JEDDAH, 4 July 2003 — Syed Akbaruddin, India’s consul general in Jeddah, has said Urdu does not belong to any particular country or region but was the language of every lover of humanity.
He was delivering the inaugural address at a mushaira organized by the Khak-e-Taiba Trust on Friday evening at the auditorium of the Saudi German Hospital, which attracted 300 lovers of Urdu from India and Pakistan.
Well-known visiting poets from India — Manzar Bhopali, Rahat Indori and Alamgeer Khan of Pataudi — recited their poems, while prominent local poets Nayeem Bazidpuri, Nayeem Hamed Ali, Qamar Hyder Qamar and Tariq Hasan Askari also regaled the gathering with ghazals.
The Khak-e-Taiba Trust is a voluntary organization devoted to educational and social welfare activities, including operation of free computer training centers in Jeddah and Hyderabad.
Akbaruddin commended the KTT’s efforts in bringing the people as well as the poets of both countries together.
