JEDDAH, 4 July 2003 — Six teams (Jeddah Cable, Tropang Panis, and Al-Gomri for Sports, Al-Hejaz Cargo, Delta Water & GSMO) prevailed in the third week of the newly opened Mahmood Saeed Collective Co.—ICBA Basketball Tournament at the COCG Basketball Court in Industrial Area, Jeddah.
The tourney is principally sponsored by Mahmood Saeed Collective Co. through Hamad Fares, the group finance manager.
Other supporters of the event are Al-Babtain Carton, Oases Trading Co., Tetra Pak, Modern Dairies Co., SCS International, Fine & Food Pastries Mfg. Co., Ang Sarap Restaurant, CMS International, ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel, Al Hejaz Air & sea Cargo, Gandour, Al Gomri for Sports, Food Specialty Co.Ltd. And Sports World Tailoring.
Members of the organizing committee of the Industrial City Basketball Association (ICBA) are Goody Viajedor (president), Mahmoud Protacio (commissioner), Roberto Dagohoy (tournament director) and Tom Madamba (secretary). Other members of the staff are Henry Enriquez, Loreto Ventura, Leo Campo, Bestre Afante, Mohd. Nour Anonuevo and Noel Guevarra.
Games Results: Jeddah Cable Co., led by Ibrahim Rongavilla beat Jeddah Foam 103-84 with able support of Cordoviz and Azura. Eufemiano, Dagohoy, Tejada and Ignacio worked hard for their team but to no avail.
Tropang Panis team spearheaded by Barkley and Payton won convincingly (77-67) over Tetra Pak in spite of the hard work of Estanislao, Madarang and Morales. Al-Gomri for Sports led by Navarro and Buenaventura, who converted 31 and 18 points respectively, beat the SCMC team of Rollie Sevandra (70-67). Al-Hejaz Air & Sea Cargo of Felix Jordan defeated Amiantit (91-90) in a thrilling match. Leading the score sheet were Biboy Rapada (26) and Jun Tejada (26) for Al-Hejaz while Jamahali, Rongavilla and Saleh Husawi starred for Amiantit.
Red Sea Palace Hotel cagers bannered by Pinlac, Pavilando, Sierra and Panaganiban turned the tables on Delta Water (Reza) led by Salazar and Perez (77-52). GSMO team beat Saudi Precast Co. (63-60) in a very tight ballgame. GSMO’s won through the efforts of the 3 S’s (Sarmiento, Serrano #2 and Serrano #5). Unida and Rivera stood out for Saudi Precas.
In earlier games, Al-Hejaz won over Solid North (87-81) with Tejada, Rapada, Sunga, Ng & Estrada starring. Liwag, Lacuata, Vizcayno, Cachero and Oliva made good points for Solid North cagers. Red Sea Palace Hotel led by Pinlac and Dumot beat Tetra Pak (65-45).
SPS defeated Preco team (73-70). Oraa, Tepace, Mararac, and Tabligan were instrumental in SPS victory.
Tropang Panis team pioneered by the foursome combination of Rosales, Villacarlos, Enhaynes and Arimado walloped King Abdul-Aziz Hospital (63-58) in spite of the efforts of Halud, Indal and Idjirani. Masat team defeated BRC (77-68) with Egos, Commandante, Ogel, Sagpan and Sumikiab standing out. Pepsi-Bugshan skippered by Peter Ronatay won over Southern Can Making Company (69-67).
Sorilla and Policarpio together with Ronatay and Devera topscored for their team, while Sevandra, Ignacio and Maceda did well for SCMC.
