MAKKAH, 6 July 2003 — Graduating from Umm Al-Qura University is a piece of cake, according to many students who enter the university.
But Rawaby Qadi, a graduate from the first group of female graduates from the medical sciences department, has an different opinion.
“It was a tough five years for us, partly because we were the first class of graduates in our department. We did not expect such difficulties or such demands from our teachers.”
Last Sunday, Princess Al-Jowhara Al-Ibrahim, wife of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, attended the Umm Al-Qura University graduation ceremony at King Abdul Aziz Sports City in Makkah.
Graduates received PhD, MA, BA degrees, as well as diplomas.
“Our medical program is based on that of King Saud University, but unlike that, we lack a university hospital where we can easily apply what we learn,” said Rawaby.
“In my last year, every day I went to King Khaled Hospital in Jeddah to practice what I was learning. That was tiring for me and for other students,” she explained.
