JEDDAH, 11 July 2003 - With most of the preliminary rounds in both singles and doubles underway yesterday, the Prince Talal bin Mansour Tennis Cup, organized by Jeddah Tennis Organization (JeTO) at Albilad Hotel Tennis Courts on the Corniche, enters its second stage next week.
The inaugural tournament will have its quarterfinals, with two doubles matches tomorrow (Friday) and six others tomorrow (Saturday) - four singles and two doubles.
The tournament’s quarterfinals will be played on Sunday and Monday - two doubles matches on Sunday and six others on Monday - four singles and two doubles.
The semifinals for two doubles matches are set for Tuesday. Two matches in the semifinals for singles will be played on Wednesday. The finals will follow on July 17 for doubles and July 18 for singles. All the matches from semifinal onward start from 7.30 p.m.
In the first round main draw four singles and one doubles were played on Wednesday. The results were as follows: Saleh Bushnaq bt Dong Sandoval 6-3, 6-1; Shukri Boshar bt Mohammed Sudais 6-1, 6-0; Amin Baldovino bt Danny Aguinaldo 6-5 (Danny retired), Hani Al-Ali bt Nasser Mahadi 6-1, 6-0; No. 1 seed Zulfikar Ahmed bt Larry Zafe 6-1, 6-0.
Bakhaider brothers played against each other, with Yaser beating Amro 7-7 (tie break 7-4), 6-3.
In the last round of the qualifying rounds Roland Santos bt Jerry Dektar 6-1, 6-0; Bashar Bodera bt Marshall Baro (6-7, 6-2, 6-1).
Matches continued in the preliminary rounds yesterday - four singles and one doubles. Today, six doubles are being played.
