KARACHI, 12 July 2003 — Two people were killed and several others injured when a powerful time bomb exploded at a five-story office building yesterday morning. The explosive device went off at around 7:40 a.m. outside the first floor of Kawish Crown Plaza, which mainly contains offices of property agents and construction companies, on the main Shahrah-e-Faisal road.
One of the dead was the security guard of a private company deployed at the plaza while the identity of the other person was not known. The security guard, Hanif son of Lal Din, was employed with Spins Security Agency.
Eyewitnesses said the body of the security guard was blown to pieces as he was sitting at the main entrance of the building when the explosion took place. It left a large crater at the entrance to the building and shattered windows at the Crown Plaza and other nearby blocks.
According to the chief of Bomb Disposal Squad, the incident was “obviously an act of terrorism.”
