RIYADH, 14 July 2003 — Saudi Arabia’s National Chemical Carriers (NCC) yesterday awarded a $66.7-million contract to South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo for building two chemical tankers. The 183-meter long tankers will each have a deadweight of 46,200 metric tons and a capacity for 54,300 cubic meters of liquid petrochemicals, NCC said in a statement. Hyundai Mipo is scheduled to complete the construction in 2005.
Established in 1990 with a capital of $133 million, NCC has 12 tankers for transporting petrochemicals with a total capacity of 350,000 tons.
Like most of the tankers, the two new carriers will be chartered to petrochemicals giant Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) on long-term contracts.
