JEDDAH, 14 July 2003 — Sony’s sole distributor in the Kingdom has denied reports that Sony is recalling its Vaio Laptops here.
“We have not received any official recall from Sony and no complaints from our customers,” said a spokesman of Modern Electronics, sole distributor of Sony products here, on Saturday.
Speaking to Arab News from Riyadh, Mohammed Ali Al-Segaih of Modern Electronics said: “The affected laptops will be recalled from Japan, the US and Europe but not from Saudi Arabia.”
He pointed out that the company’s call centers in the Kingdom had not reported any affected laptops. On Thursday Sony Corp said it would recall about 18,000 Vaio laptop computers due to the risk of a small electric shock caused by faulty modems.
