JEDDAH, 16 July 2003 — Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi announced yesterday discoveries of oil and natural gas deposits in the central and southeastern regions.
He told the Saudi Press Agency that the finds amount to about 45 million cubic feet (1.27 million cubic meters) of sweet gas and 2,050 barrels of crude oil daily.
The main discovery of 40 million standard cubic feet (1.13 million cubic meters) of gas was made at a well in Abqaiq field. More production is expected from the same area based on initial tests.
The second discovery, which included about 2,050 barrels of crude oil and 4.7 million cubic feet (133,000 cubic meters) of gas, was made in Mazaleej field in Gazal area, 150 km south of Riyadh.
