JEDDAH, 18 July 2003 — SGB Baroom caused an upset defeating Mahmood Saeed by 55 runs and Saudia Milk mauled Traco by 8 wickets in the 12th week of the Fuchs League, which is sponsored by Fuchs Petroleum and organized by JCL. Saudia Milk, Mahmood Saeed, Traco & Traco Green qualified for the semifinals where Saudia Milk takes on Traco and Mahmood Saeed clash with Traco Green.
Thanks to a superb 149 by opener Rashid Butt, SGB Baroom were able to score 274 runs in 35 overs.
In an majestic innings, Rashid took on the pace of Amjad, Farooq and Mahfooz and the spin quartet of Wajahat, Irfan, Saleem and Shahid. He flogged them to all corners of the field. Although he lost fellow opener at 6 but with Manjeet (27) he put on 95 runs for the 2nd wicket and 75 with Shafique (31) for the 3rd wicket.
He pulled and hooked with impunity and his team reached 100 in the 11th over. He hit 13 fours and 2 sixes in his 149 which came off only 100 balls before he was run out at the total of 269 runs.
SGB Baroom managed to score 274 before they were all out as Amjad, Shahid and Irfan picked up 2 wickets each.
In reply, Mahmood Saeed were bundled out for 219. They were reduced to 28 for 3 as Zahid (2 for 25) accounted for the openers. Wajahat (37), Tariq (27) and Saleem (24) stemmed the rout as they batted with caution.
Later Amjad scored 46 runs with a four and a six. However, Waseeq ran through the tail as he picked up 5 wickets for 37 runs to give SGB Baroom a well deserved win.
Saudia Milk ended the league with a facile 8 wicket win over Traco, who were bundled out for a paltry 134 runs in only 22.5 overs. Amir (3 for 45) Syed Amer (4 for 23) did the damage. Only Mohsin (33), Azeem (33) and Faisal (21) offered resistance.
In reply, the Milkmen reached their target in 20 overs. Owais (39), Syed Amer (30) put on 73 runs for the 1st wicket before Zulfiqar (23 n.o.) and skipper Anees Malik (29) applied the finishing touches to give Saudia Milk an easy 8 wicket win.
