DAMASCUS, 21 July 2003 — Egypt’s Orascom Telecom has pulled out of the Syrian mobile phone company Syriatel, which it jointly founded with the local company Drex in 2001, after a conflict which they resolved amicably, a financial daily reported yesterday. Orascom had accused Drex back in October of using political connections to take over the company, and the two had gone to the courts, Al-Iqtissadiya said.
