SANAA, 21 July 2003 — Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh departed yesterday on a state visit to Ethiopia for talks on cooperation and Horn of Africa issues, the official Saba news agency said.
The agency said Saleh would hold talks with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on developments in the Horn of Africa and means of bolstering efforts to achieve reconciliation and restore peace in Somalia.
In addition, the talks would focus on coordinating efforts by both countries to fight terrorism, Saba said.
With the Horn of Africa’s growing strategic importance, Yemen is trying to cement ties with its Red Sea neighbors, notably Sudan and Ethiopia.
