JEDDAH, 22 July 2003 — The AlKhaleej Contracting Company has decided to increase its total investments at the Jeddah Islamic Port’s Northern Containers Plant to SR800 million with a view to purchasing equipment and prepare the project’s third phase sites. “This will enable the plant to handle one million standard containers annually,” said the company whose board took the decision under the presidency of Prince Abdulaziz ibn Ahmed ibn Abdulaziz.
Minister of Transportation and Chairman of General Organization of Ports Dr. Jubarah ibn Eied Al-Sraisri commended the distinctive performance of AlKhaleej Contracting for Shipping and Unloading Company Ltd. invested in the port’s plant and said its accomplishment of standard ratio in handling containers at the plant. It achieved 152 container/hour from the ship, which is claimed to have been accomplished for the first time at the Kingdom’s ports. The previous best was 142 container/hour, which the Alkhaleej company achieved last year.
