NEW DELHI, 22 July 2003 — The monsoon session of Parliament began on a stormy note yesterday with opposition parties taking the government to task for having “pressurized” the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into dropping conspiracy charges against Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and seven others in the Babri Mosque demolition case.
Opposition parties asked Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to quit and dismiss Advani for his role in the mosque’s demolition.
The Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) was adjourned for the day amid uproarious scenes over the issue.
Earlier, the house was adjourned for over two hours when the entire opposition sat in the well shouting anti-government slogans.
While Vajpayee sat impassively in the house, Advani and Human Resource Development Minister Murali Manohar Joshi were absent.
