JEDDAH, 24 July 2003 — To provide its viewers an increased coverage of sports, the Arab and Radio Television (ART) will open three new sport channels in two months, according to Muhieldeen Saleh Kamel, general manager of sports channels in ART.
Kamel said that two of these new channels, Abtal 1 and Abtal 2, would broadcast Champions League matches nationwide including, Arab Champions League, European Champions League, African Champions League, Asian Champions League and the South American Champions League.
Kamel said that the third channel will broadcast 24 hours of sports news which will include the most important local, regional and international sports news.
He said this will be the first Arabian channel broadcasting sport news 24 hours. He pointed out that ART has signed a three-year contract with the soccer’s governing body (UEFA) to broadcast the European Champions League matches.
