RIYADH, 1 August 2003 — Peter Maranan’s COD Wakaray outclassed Ace Metro Star in the elimination round of the ongoing Inter-Cargo dart tilt played at the Cues Recreation Center. This event is organized by the Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA).
COD’s Jun Danabar sparked the singles with a win against Ace’s Jun Tamondong followed by heavy fires from Ely Martos and Ronnie Lacson opposite Nestor Mirasol and Zoilo Holganza in the second and third singles.
Ace’s Sandy Alegre put all efforts to stay alive and denied Jun Angara. Ace’s fifth player Abet Apon continued the assault on Domeng Cunanan by finishing a D18 in 17 darts.
Emil Lindo regained COD’s tempo by silencing Banny Alagar in the sixth singles repeated by Vic Briones insulting Ace’s top gun Vic Manaois with a 119 out shot in the 7th match-up.
Ace captain Manny Barroga fired back against Sammy Abarientos in the last singles and prevailed ending the singles at 5-3 in COD’s favor. Aiming to equalize in the first doubles, Ace started a solid pair of Abet Apon-Vic Manaois against Sammy Abarientos-Jerome Ugat.
Abet Apon hit his D20 target for the equalizer (5,5) after Jerome Ugat missed a D18. COD’s second pair Jun Danabar-Emil Lindo grabbed the second doubles from Rod Viray and Sandy Alegre but found their last contingents Ely Martos and Domeng Cunanan surrendering to Manny Barroga and Banny Alagar for a 7-7 tie going into the last leg.
In the pressure-laden deciding match COD’s Ely Martos took his chance for a D8 out shot and unleashed the game-winning throw that finished the Ace Metro Star team, 10-7 final score.
In their second game against Expo team, they duplicated the victory by sweeping the singles, 6-2, scored 4 points in the doubles and went for the kill in the last leg with a 13-4 ending.
Highest out shot was awarded to Vic Briones. Least dart to Abet Apon and bull’s-eye king to Ronald Cawagas.
