MADINAH, 1 August 2003 — The prize distribution ceremony for the 2nd MCA Saudi Arabian Airlines Cup cricket tournament was held at Al-Dakheel hotel. The tournament was sponsored by the Dakheel Group of Travels under the banner of Saudi Arabian Airlines and organized by Madinah Cricket Association.
Eight teams participated in the tournament and Saudi Oger were the winners while Sadafco were the runners-up.
Other than the teams and players, the ceremony was attended by a large number of people. Mohammed Rafea Lanjavi, Saudia’s general manager for passenger’s sales and services for northern region, was the chief guest. Other Saudia staff and executives who attended the function were Hani Mukhtar, manager Madinah Munawarah, Ibrahim Abdul Hameed Kurdi, manager for sales and marketing, Riyaz Saeed, public relation officer. Abdul Aziz Abu Laban and Yousuf Khalil.
Among the expatriates Siddique Shiekh, deputy director Pakistan Haj Mission Madinah Munawara, Dr. Insram Ali, Chaudri Masood, Dr. Mujahid, Naveed, Subahni and Zafar were the other main guests.
Zeyad Dakheel, director of Dakheel Group of Travels welcomed the guests. Ceremony started with recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Noor, manager of Dakheel Group, spoke on behalf of Zeyad Dakheel. Siddique Shiekh and Insram were also invited to address the audience. Shiekh appreciated the support from the Saudia management and the Dakheel Group of Travel. He also praised the efforts of Madinah Cricket Association to promote the game.
Lanjavi too expressed full satisfaction in MCA management and declared that Saudi Arabian Airlines will continue to support MCA and the game of cricket. He also expressed that Saudia was proud to be associated with cricket.
MCA President Syed Zahid Ali thanked the sponsors and all for their support. He specially thanked the Dakheel Group for their unstinting backing. Prizes were given away to the successful players and the main trophies distributed to the top three teams. An air ticket Jeddah-Karachi-Jeddah was also given to the best player of the tournament that was won by Eijaz of Sadafco Cricket Club.
