RIYADH, 4 August 2003 — In the 10th week of action of the AFTP Independence Cup 2003, the Shotmakers team of Gerry de Guzman and Mario Abrasaldo advanced by beating Limvudocie group led by Ed Galvez, 37-35. Revitalized Aces & Faces coached by Rey Beninsig and Rene Suarez pulled off overtime victory 41-32 against the frontrunner Power Brokers of Felix Pacleb and Lito Hufana in the ABC Category, while the Lucky Shots captained by Robert Romero and Dante Pozas struggled to beat the surging Passing Shots at 46-36.
The Sultan ibn Abdulaziz Humanitarian City (SBAHC) Volleyers managed by Romy Ocena and Ding Verdan got the better of ABV’s Meteor Volley group, 40-28. The Racqueteers IV Quest of Carl Mosot and George Galano stopped the BSS-Les Banquiers en route to 41-34 win.
The Genesis team of Ray Axalan scored over the Match Pointers team 45-26.
Tanmia-sponsored Supreme Smashers ably managed by Rommel Calzote and Melvin Abarquez defeated the SACIR team 46-34 in the C Category. In other encounters, the Aero Balls claimed a nail-biting victory over DQ Hunks, 42-32, followed by the Volleygators-2B team of Jigs Garcia and Ting Banday when they held tenaciously on to their lead with a 43-37 win against the ABV’s Tomahawk squad of the B/C Category.
The Al Mashrik fighters overpowered the Mindanao Region’s RTC-Royal Balls, 48-22, while the Smart Shots posted the highest output 42-33 against the Friends Group. BSF-Les Banquiers, headed by Bong de Leon and Edgar Estoesta, won 42-28 against the RTC-D’Hardcore.
The Power Brokers team raced to a comfortable 39-36 against the Pace-Setters at the center court 3 of the AFTP Independence tennis fest. Passing Shots group of Fidel Lozano and Prophetiso de Leon had the better of getting a total of 38 game points with 5 sets won while the Awalnet-Ters got 20 sets won only with 40 game points.
D’Equalizers Rockers of Marlon dela Cruz banked on their balance scoring production against D’Racqueteers IV Quest team at 46-29. The SEC’s Kharabha managed by Raffy dela Cruz came out with their best performance in their penultimate action by knocking down the Meteor Volley at 46-30. The SBAHC Volleyers demolished the Match Pointers to make it into the top 4 spot at 46-29.
This event of the Association of Filipino Tennis Players (AFTP) in Riyadh played on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays is being held at the sprawling Al Yamama Hotel Sports Complex.
