RIYADH, 7 August 2003 — A father turned in his own son, whom he suspected of terrorist sympathies. Abdul Aziz Salem Al-Seif handed over his son to Saudi security authorities after discovering that his son espoused extremist ideas, according to Okaz.
“I handed over my son Salem to security authorities to shield him from deviant ideas. He is now in safe hands,” said Al-Seif, a well-known citizen from Hail, northwest Saudi Arabia.
Al-Seif said 20-year-old Salem, a technology student in Riyadh, had given security authorities “all the information he has about (suspected) terrorists.”
Al-Watan reported that the father became suspicious of his son’s activities when his son unexpectedly returned to Hail and explained that he had been in the holy city of Madinah, the scene of a highly publicized shootout between terrorist suspects and security forces.
Coming to the conclusion that his son had joined “criminal infidels,” Al-Seif called the police, saying that “the interests of the nation come before all other things.”
