RIYADH, 8 August 2003 — The Ace Metro Star team, guided by EDSA Chairman Mannie Barroga, held steady to walk away with two convincing wins. Once leaders in every tourney and composed of veteran players, this team had a cold start but rose from eight to fifth in the team standing.
In the first session showdown against the Expo team, Ace Darters caught heat in the singles and scored a towering 7-1 lead courtesy of Abet Apon, Zoilo Holganza, Jun Tamondong, Mannie Barroga, Vic Manaois, Rod Viray and Rey dela Torre. Only Sandy Alegre was beaten by Dong Boholst in the 3rd matchup.
With momentum on Ace’s side, Nestor Mirasol fired the clincher shot that ended the game early in the first doubles. Ace grabbed another 2 points but donated all the remaining to Expo team for a final 11-6 score.
Of the second game, Ace took the offense to Noel de Leon’s SkyFreight STR and won 9-8. Ace swept to a 5-3 singles lead and went on for the kill by capturing two doubles matchup but granted the no-bearing team event to STR.
Jun Danabar recorded 13 darts, a pin short from Mario Guanzon’s record of 12 darts. Philip Agliam on the other hand erased Edwin Canale’s 130 mark with a high 150 last week. Atong Geloso scored 117 and Jimmy Alapide 101. Rod Viray recorded another Ton80 while bull’s-eye king was Edwin Canales.
