RIYADH, 8 August 2003 — Greenland team beat Al Amal Cargo team 71-64 in the opening of the Saudi Filipino Basketball association (SFBA) 5th Open Invitational Cup that kicked-off at the Saptco housing compound basketball court.
Greenland was spearheaded by Jun Gantan, Rommel Galivo and Rey Saraosos who scored 17,15 and 10 respectively, while Al Amal was led by Manalo, Gaco, Pring and Lising who had a total of 40 points in the game.
Al Amal led by 1 point 32-31 at the half. R. Saraosos sank back-to-back baskets that gave them the lead early in the second half. Jun Laxamana’s boys managed to come back with a 2-point deficit and 2 minutes remaining in the game.
But charities caused by fouls sent Galivo to the free throw line that sealed their chance of victory.
The conference participating teams are; Greenland co. managed by Yousef Al Masri, Al Amal modern cargo managed by Khaja Pasha, WRJ managed by William R Jao, R&A sports ltd. managed by Edwin Sarmiento, Al Bustan RMC managed by Ramil Mariano and Saptco managed by Mohammad Khamis.
