JEDDAH, 8 August 2003 — Sponsoring companies, team managers, players, community leaders and consulate officials headed by Consul General Kadatuan P. Usop, led the joint awarding ceremonies of the recently concluded 8th Seiko-16th FBA Basketball Tournament and 105th Independence Volleyball Tournament that was held at the consulate grounds last week.
POLO Labor Attache Nasser Munder, OWWA Welfare Officer Mustapha Glang and AO Mohd. Taha Guinomla also attended. Representatives of sponsors, Mohd. Ali Taleb of Seiko, Essam Abbas and Ehab Hamud of Samsung were also present. They congratulated the tournament’s organizing committee, headed by Gil Manese, for a successful event.
FBA President Gil Manese thanked all for their support and the song rendition of Janet Cervito elicited applause. All the guests expressed their satisfaction of the FBA event while extending support to the upcoming 9th Seiko-17th FBA Basketball Tournament set to start midway through August at Ittihad Sports Club in Jeddah. A contract agreement has been duly signed by the Ittihad management and FBA for a period covering months of August to November 2003.

Mythical Five: Julius Consignado of Al-Majal and Ramil Martin of Finetool (best guards), Alex Carpio of Al-Majal and Alfredo Tejada of Finetool (best forwards) and Ferdie Dagohoy as (best center). Michael Marquez of Al-Majal (best coach) Ken Bautista (best team manager) and Anthony Manguerra of Al-Majal Service Master as Most Valuable Player who received a Samsung 14” TV set for his excellent performance
Inter-Company Bonafide (Strong) Division - Champion Team (Junastar Cargo Services), 1st Runners-up (Hanco Maintenance), 2nd Runners-up (NAI Juffali), and 3rd Runners-up (Saudi ABV). Mythical Five members are: Ronald Batarao of Junastar and Abril Mabarit of Hanco Maintenance as best guards, Norman Huerto of Hanco and Dante Rivero of NAI Juffali as best forwards and Julz Pakkie of Junastar as best center. Jimmy Hernandez as the most valuable player who also received a Samsung 14” TV set.
Inter-Commercial Open Non Rated Division - Champion Team (Junastar Cargo Services), 1st Runners-up (Arab News), 2nd Runners-up (Dynarabia Fire Rescue) and Marawi Wizards (3rd Runners-up). Mythical Five: Larry Sunga and Ricky Pineda of WRJ Freight Forwarders as best guards, Joshua Villegas of Dynarabia & Allan Togonon of Arab News as best forwards and Erwin Arquero as best center. Jagg Malit of WRJ as best coach, William Jao & Bebot Budlong of WRJ as best team managers and Gary Talastas as MVP who also got a 14” TV set for his performance.
Special awards were given to SACO Hardware and the most improved player award was given to Julz Pakkie. Awardees of the recently concluded 105th Philippine Independence Volleyball Tournaments also received their trophies and valuable prizes as follows: Women’s Division - Champion Team (King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital) led by Connie Latuja, Ist Runners-up - (King Faisal Specialists Hospital & Saudia Medical Services) pioneered by Jojit Ramos. 2nd Runners-up (ALJ Rehabilitation Hospital) headed by Zoy Descalsota and 3rd Runners-up (Bugshan General Hospital) led by Asuncion Mabarit. They also received some gift items from Nivea (Al Injazat Trading Co., Ltd) through Mubarak Bin Madi & Sami Michamich.
In the Men’s Division, Jeddah Selection of Alvin Bautista was the champion team, 1st Runners-up (Al-Majal Service Master) and incidentally also the principal and sole sponsor of the volleyball tournament, with the help of Kamal Bakhsh, Engr. M. Mashat and Ken Bautista, 2nd Runners-up (Givenchy) and 3rd Runner-up team was King Abdul-Aziz Medical City of Efren Barros.
