RIYADH, 8 August 2003 — The 11th week of action of the AFTP Independence Cup 2003 saw the teams managed by Joey Salem & Clifford Mendez (Pace-Setters), Jigs Garcia & Ting Banday (Volleygators-2A) at the forefront.
The rejuvenated Pace-Setters squeezed out a perilous 43-36 victory over the Shotmakers Group, while the Limvudocie headed by Ed Galvez and Herbie Trazo took a 46-19 lead against the Laguna Tennisters at court 4.
Passing Shots group of Fidel Lozano and Prophetiso De Leon handed the Eskan Patriots, 43-35 an upset loss. The Volleygators-2A suffered a mid-match slump but regained their composure to beat Awalnet-Ters at 42-37.
In the B/C Category, the Al-Mashrik team mentored by Gerry de Guzman and Paul Praga set off a fresh outbreak at 42-24 against the Blockbusters at court 2 followed by the DQ Hunks of Bert Oliva and Cesar Unabia when they overpowered the Bankers contingent at 43-37 at court 4.
Aero Balls of Robert Romero and Dante Pozas beat the SAIB Net Busters at 48-23 at court 1. Siemens mentored by Choy Sanz and Jonathan del Pilar beat at 42-26 the Match Pointers team.
In another development, the Aces and Faults team of Rey Beninsig and Rene Suarez won 48-17 win over the Eskan Patriots at court 2.
The Smart Shots knocked down at 43-39 the Al-Mashrik. Friends, headed by Ace Espiritu and Ben Gonzales powered past at 48-26 the Patriot Builders at court 6.
The Aero Balls wrapped up the best of their matches at 46-22 against the Mindanao’s RTC-D’Royal Balls.
This event of the Association of Filipino Tennis Players (AFTP) in Riyadh played on Wednesdays from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
And on Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. is being held at the sprawling Al Yamama Hotel Sports Complex.
