TORONTO, Canada, 10 August 2003 — Boston Bruins left wing Brian Rolston received a 44 percent raise Friday, when he was awarded a $3.175 million contract by an arbitrator.
Rolston, whose case was heard Wednesday in Toronto, earned $2.2 million last season. He was third in scoring for the Bruins, collecting 27 goals and 32 assists in 81 games.
In line to become a Group III unrestricted free agent after the 2003-04 campaign, Rolston was second in the National Hockey League last season with five shorthanded goals. He added two assists in Boston’s five-game loss to New Jersey in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Sabres Re-Sign Kotalik to One-Year Contract
The Buffalo Sabres on Friday re-signed restricted free agent right wing Ales Kotalik, who ranked second among National Hockey League rookies with 21 goals last season, to a one-year contract with a club option.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A native of the Czech Republic, Kotalik finished with 35 points, nine fewer than rookie scoring leader and Calder Trophy winner Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings despite playing in 11 fewer games.
