JEDDAH, 11 August 2003 — A wedding in the southern city of Baljurashi has been postponed until next week as the bridegroom failed to turn up because his car broke down, Al-Riyadh reported yesterday. The friends and relatives of both bride and groom were waiting at the wedding hall for the man to arrive, and the delay gave rise to rumors that the groom might have run away. Anxious relatives of the bride visited the man’s house to discover the actual reason for the delay, where they found the groom busy repairing his car. He said he was unable to contact the relatives by cell phone due to lack of coverage in the region. Meanwhile, a newly wed couple in Jizan had the embarrassment of their life when the power went off as they arrived at the wedding hall for the party. When wedding hall authorities failed to make alternative arrangements for light, the invitees switched on the headlights of their cars to illuminate the event.
