RIYADH, 15 August 2003 — Trane team’s manager and coach Yulo Torion has something to celebrate about, being the only team to beat the defending champions KKIA squad in a narrow win during game one of the semifinal round of the Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) at the Eid Contracting Compound, Exit 12 Riyadh.
Trane cagers’ Carreon Brothers (Abel and Reden) provided a tight defense and high-leaping Noel Ramos provided the offensive push.
KKIA’s fast break game with Nestor Alforque directing play, and Roy Fernandez, Allain Catalan and Richard Hadlocon’s hitting quick shots gave them an advantage at the first canto buzzer end, 18-15.
Trane took the upper hand at the close of the second quarter, 36-32.
The third quarter saw KKIA put them ahead by a point. But it was Jeff Salac who started the final canto with back-to-back baskets allowing Trane team to grab the first win in game one of the semifinal round 70-68.
