MARAWI CITY, 11 August 2003 — The online academic curriculum of the Mindanao State University — Wisdom International (MSU-WINT) has attracted many overseas Filipinos and other expatriates worldwide.
In e-mails to the premier state university in the southern Philippines, a good number of individuals have applied for the Internet program and some have expressed their support for its success.
Carlo Hipolito Gatchalian, who works with E.A. Juffali & Bros. in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, expressed interest in the B.S. Info Tech program being offered, a degree he said he had long dreamed of.
“This is a great opportunity for us who want to pursue and get another degree while we are working and while in our homes,” said Ernesto M. Maglatang, a CPA working with Saudi Fal Co. Ltd. also in Dammam.
Bong Langco, an engineer of Saudi Aramco in Abqaiq said MSU-WINT’s online offering “is like a mouthwatering food” that should “quench our thirst and hunger for knowledge.”
From Ohio, United States, Leah Gallur said she intends to complete her BS Civil Engineering course through MSU-WINT. “I am interested in finishing what I started there in MSU... Now you are online, maybe this is the time,” she said.
Norie McEnroe, a nurse working in Vancouver, Canada, said: “I am interested in taking another degree through MSU only. Online school makes this possible.”
Abdul Rahim Leyman, a research scientist in Singapore, hopes to take up Islamic Studies through MSU-WINT’s online program. “Armed with an Islamic Studies program would assist me in relating my work towards Divine inspiration and understanding,” he wrote.
MSU-WINT is the accredited official online university of MSU, one of the five leading state universities in the Philippines, as certified by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The MSU main campus in Marawi City in Central Mindanao will award degrees to students of this online university who successfully comply with all the academic and other requirements for graduation.
A non-profit university, MSU-WINT offers affordable tuition from only $125 to $300 per semester. Start of classes for the first semester had been moved to mid-September, in line with the prevailing international school calendar. Joey dela Vega of Al Falak Computer in Alkhobar said the MSU-WINT’s online program is a “good opportunity for us OFWs to continue our studies while working abroad.”
“I am very much interested to enroll in your online MBM studies and to take up Human Resource Management,” wrote Santiago V. Ascutia of Saudi Aramco in Dhahran.
“When I read about your offer in the newspaper (Arab News), I was thankful to God that He showed me the way. Your school and your online studies will be my tool to further my career,” he added.
Sandra Tinio Palmera, holder of a master’s degree in education at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, said: “I hope that I would be given the chance to study through MSU-WI online university.”
