RIYADH, 18 August 2003 — Transport Minister Dr. Jabara Al-Seraisry yesterday signed 60 contracts worth SR1.65 billion with 29 companies for the maintenance of roads in the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.

Last week, the minister signed a contract to complete the two-way Jeddah-Laith-Qunfuda-Jizan Road at a cost of SR510 million. The Kingdom has 46,683 kilometers of roads including expressways.

Al-Seraisry yesterday visited Jizan and inspected the roads and bridges damaged by torrential floods there. Work on the Jeddah-Jizan coastal road would start soon, he said.
