MADINAH, 18 August 2003 — A man attacked and injured a doctor and a male nurse in the emergency section at King Fahd Hospital, Al-Madinah reported. The attacker continued to rave at the hospital for an hour before police arrived and arrested him. Witnesses said the attacker had brought his 73-year-old father in for treatment. The elderly man was suffering from heart failure and though emergency room doctors tried to revive him, he did not respond and was pronounced dead. But the son blamed the negligence of medical staff for his father’s death and attacked the nurse and doctor. Dr. Abdullah Al-Taifi, the director general of health affairs in Madinah, called the attacker’s allegations “unfounded” and said the man was clearly a danger to others.
