In the last decade Islamic banking has become a major force in the world of finance. The Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance was set up in London in 1991 to support the development of the Islamic financial system.

IIBI is the only organization of its kind in the world. It has made a significant contribution to the education and training of people in Islamic banking and insurance through a post graduate diploma course, publications, lectures, seminars, workshops, research, Shariah advisory services and a highly informative website — islamic-banking.com.

In support of its educational activities, IIBI is a sponsor of two upcoming conferences, to be held in London, featuring speakers from across the Islamic world including scholars and banking professionals from Saudi Arabia. The Conference on Islamic Insurance (Takaful) and Finance is scheduled for Sept. 26 and Sept. 27. Islamic Funds World, the first conference devoted to Islamic Funds, will take place Oct. 6-8.

If you aren’t familiar with Islamic banking and Takaful, Islamic-banking.com is a good place to learn more on these subjects. For potential investors, the site provides links to the annual reports of Islamic financial institutions and another area listing Islamic equity funds.
