HOUSTON, Texas, 20 August 2003 — Houston Texans fullback Jarrod Baxter is out for the season due to a sprained left foot, the National Football League team announced Monday. Baxter suffered the injury in the third quarter of Friday’s 34-6 preseason loss at Dallas. Baxter started 10 of 15 games for the Texans last year in his rookie season, making his NFL debut in the season-opening victory over Dallas.
“This is certainly a loss,” Texans coach Dom Capers said. “Jarrod started for us all last year. He came back in with a great attitude and worked extremely hard during the offseason.
“He was showing significant progress, because last year was his first year playing fullback. I feel bad for Jarrod because he worked so hard to get ready for the season.” Baxter was one of the Texans’ inaugural draft picks, going in the fifth round of the 2002 draft.
