RIYADH, 22 August 2003 — E. Gomez’ (Saptco) 12 points and 7 rebounds including 2 in the crucial remaining seconds of the game drove his team to 74-71 victory over Al Amal in the Saudi-Filipino Basketball Association (SFBA) 5th open invitational basketball tournament held at the Saptco housing compound, Takhassusi Street.

Saptco dominated the game from the outset leading 6 points in the first quarter and four points at the half. D. Abad led Saptco with 24 point backed by B. Conception, who had 13 points. B. Conception scored 9 of his 13 point output in the fourth quarter and drove the offense of Saptco to maintain a slight lead.

But Saptco was slapped with 2 technical fouls committed by Caducoy which gave Al Amal the chance to even the score 71-all with 30 seconds remaining in the game.

But the bonus on the line were missed and E. Gomez grabbed the three succeeding rebounds to take Saptco to victory at the end of the game.

In the other games of the week, Al Bustan humbled R & A Sport Limited. 127-95. De Los Reyes, Manigbas led R & A Sport Limited while Esguerra, Fajardo, Salac, Capati and Nota led Al Bustan.

Greenland beat WRJ in the second game Friday. N. Al Forque and Shaheer, a former Saudi national team member, led the team with a combined output of 45 points in the game.
