BOSTON, 25 August 2003 — Kevin Millar’s 10th inning double off the glove of center fielder Mike Cameron scored the winning run to give the Boston Red Sox a 7-6 win over the Seattle Mariners in American League play on Saturday. Millar’s hit gave the Red Sox their third straight win, leaving Boston tied with the Oakland Athletics for the AL wild card spot. Cameron had tied the score with an RBI single with two outs in the ninth for Seattle, but the Red Sox put together their rally in the 10th off loser Kazuhiro Sasaki and Arthur Rhodes, who gave up Millar’s game-winning hit.

In Detroit, Scott Spiezio had a three-run double in a six-run 10th inning, leading the Anaheim Angels to a 14-8 comeback win over the woeful Tigers. Garret Anderson added a two-run single in the 10th as the Angels completed a rally after trailing 5-0 after six innings, sending Detroit to its 11th straight loss.

In St. Petersburg, Jody Gerut and Travis Hafner both homered as the Cleveland Indians scored six runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7-5.
Casey Blake’s two-run single drove in the winning runs for Cleveland, while C.C. Sabathia (12-7) allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings for the victory.
Diamondbacks Rout Cubs to Stay in Playoff Race
In Phoenix, Danny Batista homered and drove in four runs as Robby Hammock added three hits in a four-RBI effort to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 13-2 rout of the Chicago Cubs in National League play.

In San Francisco, Neifi Perez drove in the winning run with an eighth inning double, leading the Giants past the Florida Marlins 3-2.

In Houston, Paul Wilson tossed seven strong innings and Juan Castro hit a two-run double to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros. The Astros lost for the eighth time in 11 games and dropped into a tie for first place in the NL Central with St. Louis.

In Milwaukee, Royce Clayton’s two-out single in the ninth inning drove in the winning run as the Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 for their fifth straight win. Leo Estrella (5-2) got the win despite allowing three runs on three hits and allowing the Pirates to tie the game in the top of the ninth.

In Denver, Gary Sheffield’s bases-loaded double drove in three runs in a five-run fifth to give the Atlanta Braves a 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. Andruw Jones also homered for Atlanta while Javy Lopez had three hits. Mike Hampton (12-5) went 6 2/3 innings for the win, allowing four runs on 11 hits before John Smoltz struck out the side in the ninth for his 44th save.

In San Diego, Mark Kotsay drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Padres a 1-0 win over the slumping Montreal Expos. Mike Matthews (4-4) tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the win.

In Los Angeles, Steve Trachsel tossed 7 1/3 shutout innings to lead the New York Mets past the Dodgers 4-0. Trachsel (13-7) allowed five hits while striking out four and walking none. Jose Reyes homered for the Mets.
