JEDDAH, 29 August 2003 — The Bahrain-based Gulf University College is offering scholarships to GCC students from the new academic year, which begins next month.
The scholarships will cover almost 15 percent of the total number of students admitted each semester, GUC said in a press statement.
The scholarships cover only the tuition fees. Students who accumulate an average of 95 percent and above in their high school certificate are eligible to apply. Students with an average of 98 percent or above can apply for full scholarship and those with an average of 95 to 97.5 percent are eligible for partial scholarship, the statement said.
The scholarship program marks a milestone in Bahrain’s educational history as GUC becomes the first private university in the country to offer scholarships and financial aid packages to deserving students from GCC countries. “The advantage for students to secure scholarships is that they would have the opportunity of receiving internationally accredited degrees from the Gulf University College as well as the prestigious University of London without even leaving the shores of Bahrain,” the statement added.
GUC has already announced the first batch of students to receive scholarships. Winners of the full scholarships are: Fatima Abdulrida Hidar, Hussain Al-Said Majed and Zaynab Yousif Jamali. Partial scholarship recipients are : Maryam Fouad Abdulrahman, Abdulla Jafar Hassan and Zaynab Jafar Al-Mawlani.
