JEDDAH, 29 August 2003 — The debuting Cali Sparkling Drink bowling team and the Lux Progress team keglers displayed awesome performances to corner bowling spotlight in the 2nd week of the All Filipino Tenpin Bowling League, 30th Conference, organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ).
The games are being played at the Jeddah Lanes Bowling Center and supported by Cali Sparking Drink, Black Stallion Marketing and Lux Progress.
A total of 38 points were generated by the Lux Progress team keglers through the combined output of Andy Erena, Zaldy Parinas, Rudy Punzalan, Joe Flores and Toto Lim. Erene toppled 596 to be on top while following him with the best series scores was Parinas with 593. Punzalan rolled 585 while Flores and Lim had 537 and 485. The Lux Progress quintet tallied overall total team series handicap of 2,907 points. Sharing the limelight with Lux Progress were the keglers of the Cali Sparkling team, who collected 33 points. The mighty Roger Abantas led by posting a series of 599 with a game high of 241 rolled in the third game. Abet Sarte followed Abantas rolling 244 in the last match and submitted 587 series in the penultimate games. Igna Salgado and Mao Orolfo together with Rally Zamora contributed a separate series of 556, 551 and 506.
The defending champion Dove Bar and the SkyFreight Forwarders sealed an identical 30 points. Man of the hour, Jess Pineda showed his devastating form to be on top in the Dove Bar team captained by Edwin Ronquillo. Pineda exploded for a remarkable three game series scratch of 659, average of 219 and burned the lanes to roll an impressive 255 and 234 in the first and third outings. Mar Cabrera, Joey Salvador, Nap Patayan and Edwin Ronquillo too sizzled to contribute separate three-game series of 569, 566, 515 and 505.
For the SkyFreight Forwarders, the 1st runner-up in the just concluded AFTBL 29th conference, the leading point makers were the duo of Cris Villavelez and Danny De Guzman, who toppled a series of 581 and 571. Edu Toledo, Rene Santiago and Boy Ramos poured 558, 555 and 496.
The veteran and one-time 300 perfect holder, Angel Decena led in the Saudi Pearl Insurance team by tallying a series of 567. Rene Martinez and Rey Beltran chipped in with 551 and 531 while Atoi Cruz and Dante Calapatia scored a series of 517 and 503.
The Saudi Pearl Insurance compiled an overall total team series handicap of 2789 and snatched 29 points. The Picpa Pro team through the good games of Benjie Domado and Lindo Villanueva got 26 points. Domado and Villanueva fired a series of 582 and 544. Teammates Paul Antiporda, Emil Payongayong and Jun Pilipina downed a series of 529, 515 and 504. The Tetra Pak banking on the excellent display of games of Rodell Ricafort and Bonnie Garcia went home with 20 points. Ricafort and Garcia had 563 and 553 while Goying Salazar, Rudy Valenzuela and Bert Tuvera supported the Tetra Pak by contributing a series of 502, 501 and 497.
The Gandour Yamama garnered 19 points through the help of Mel Yabut and Fred Monzon who scored a series of 523 and 514. Adrian Abrenica, Jerriel Cacao and Jess Escondo knocked-down 494, 473 and 466. The SDC Kohler team keglers produced 15 points and the leading scorer was Roger Daquioag with 559, followed by Raul delos Reyes (541), Netor Casalme (520) and Boy Casio (469). Jerry Valle downed 360 series.
The Saudia Wings and the Al-Hussaini & Co. (Seiko) teams recorded separate points of 13 and 11. Ed Labuac was on top in the Saudia Wings squad with a series of 559 while at the forefront in the Al-Hussaini & Co. (Seiko) team were the tandem of Bien Hermosura (528) and Sammy Ocampo (520).
