AMMAN, 3 September 2003 — A new sea link between Jordan’s Red Sea port of Aqaba and the popular Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh will be launched on Friday in a bid to bolster tourism, a senior official said yesterday.

Alaa Batayneh, general secretary of the Transport Ministry, told the Petra news agency the link would be operated by an 18-million-dollar vessel, the Princess, with a capacity to transport 710 passengers and 30 vehicles across the Red Sea. The Princess, which will ply the route on Thursdays and Fridays, is the property of the Arab Bridge Maritime Company, a joint Jordanian-Eygptian-Iraqi venture.
