JEDDAH, 4 September 2003 — For Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) aspiring to venture into a lucrative business, here’s another opportunity being offered by OFWNet Foundation, one of the many community organizations in the Kingdom. The G&E Franchising & Mktg. Corp., a group project of OFWNet members, has recently launched new business ventures namely: Global Digital Campus (GDC), Eleven Volume IT Books, and the Mobile Car Wash.
The GDC is an ICT training school located just in front of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. It offers quality education for students interested in the field of information and communication technology. The Eleven Volume IT Books published by GDC is the first-ever written by Filipino writers. It has been adapted to the Filipino culture and is aimed at elementary and high school students. G&E also recently launched the Mobile Car Wash, a specially designed motorcycle driven mini-van for car washing at the comfort of peoples’ homes or offices.
All these are now available for franchising and distributorship respectively.
OFWNet, through its economic arm OFW Intl. Holdings, is concentrating on core projects such as OFW Remit, OFW Land, OFW Travel & Tours and hopefully the Micro Finance Bank.
Members themselves, however, can venture into other types of businesses provided they are not in direct competition with the core projects. For this reason, members have to take the initial risk of the business and once viable, they can hook up with the holding company.
“In all business there is risk. The only thing that can be done is to wisely calculate the risk and eliminate a big percentage of the possibility of failure,” said Alan Exevea, one of the prime movers of the group.
