CAIRO, 12 September 2003 — Two Libyans will stand trial here later this month on charges of trying to attack Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal in a Cairo hotel, judicial sources said yesterday.
Fathi Beshir Saad, 25, and Mahmud Al-Beshir Ahmed, 27, will go on trial in a Cairo criminal court on Sept. 27 after being charged with “insulting and aggressing a public” official, the sources said.
Egyptian security forces arrested the pair after they confronted Prince Saud Monday night in a Cairo hotel lobby as he was on his way to an Arab League meeting. The two remain in police custody.
Prince Saud told reporters later that “one man tried to assault me but the men around me prevented him.”
