JEDDAH, 12 September 2003 — In the fifth week matches of Summer League organized by Jeddah Cricket League, Dabbagh surprised Saudia City; Hafil stunned Young Athlete, Traco Green outclassed Nadir Toor. Sadafco beat Islamic Development Bank, Red Sea thumped Nadeem Memorial, Saudia Milk defeated SGB Baroom. Nestle Milo came up trumps against Saleheen.

Saudia City set a modest target of 123 runs for Dabbagh to win. Dabbagh reached the target but lost 6 wickets in the process. Saudi City’s modest target was made possible by a patient knock of 50 by Azar. He came after the fall of opener Qassim’s (6) wicket and was eighth out. Prishan (12), Iftikhar (9), Rifan (2), Aslam (4), Mazhar (5), Tahbbash (6) failed to contribute as Saudia City crawled to 122 runs. Shakeel (2 for 22) started the collapse and Umair (1 for 11), Yaseen (1 for 18), Ameen (1 for 20), Asghar (2 for 16) and Nadeem (1 for 8) completed it.

Facing a modest target Dabbagh openers Kamran (18) and Ahmad (32 - 4 fours) started well. But Qasim grabbed 4 wickets for 37 runs in quick succession and Dabbagh stuttered to 122 for 6. Nadeem (18 n.o.) saw Dabbagh through without any further damage. Mazhar and Rafan had one wicket each.

Hafil put up a modest total of 125 runs but still managed to beat Young Athlete by 10 runs. Hafil batsmen were given torrid time by Young Athlete bowlers. Javed (3 for 17) dismissed Talha (5) and Fakhar (1 for 16) sent back hard hitting Maqbool (15). Hafil’s main hope, Saleem Nahdi unnecessarily was run out. But Salam Mahmoud (39 - 3 fours) and Sarwar (13) steadied the innings a little. But Manzoor (2 for 16) and Shoaib (2 for 32) unsettled the batsmen again. Arif contributed (14) in Hafil’s 125.

Young Athlete, whose hopes had been raised, lost Rashid (6) in the 2nd over. Abdullah shattered its dreams somewhat by bowling Mujahid (13) and Hussain (2). Abdul Aziz sent back Ghazanfar for (3) and Fakhr (1). Nahdi (3 for 13) further dented Young Athlete. Though Javed revived some hope by hitting (18) but his partner ran himself out in a mix up and Young Athlete was all out for 115.

Nadir Toor put up a reasonable tally of 166 runs but Traco Green racked up the runs in just 12 overs. Nadir Toor XI lost its opener, Nadir Toor for one but Ghayoor (95 n.o.) and Hamid (23) took the score to 84. But then wickets fell as they posted 166. Ghayoor’s 95 was laced with 13 hits to the ropes.

Traco Green reached 166 for the loss of 4 wickets. Shakeel (1 for 29), Kaleem (1 for 26), Shahzad (1 for 21) and Niaz (1 for 22) took the wickets. Niaz blazed the way, hitting 3 sixes and 14 boundaries in his 81. He hit 4 consecutive fours and a six. He was on his way to another hundred but Nadeem had him caught.
