JEDDAH, 14 September 2003 — The annual CommTel, Saudi Arabia’s major international computer exhibition, opens at the Jeddah International Exhibition and Convention Center today.
King Abdul Aziz University President Professor Osama ibn Sadik Tayeb will formally inaugurate the six-day show at 5 p.m. It runs concurrently with the Middle East Education and Training Exhibition (MEETES 03).
CommTel showcases computing, computer shoppers, the Internet, office equipment and accessories, business communications and mobile phones. “The show is being staged at a time when the Kingdom’s computer and communications sectors are witnessing continuous growth with annual sales estimated at more than $800 million,” said a spokesman for Al-Harithy Company for Exhibitions Ltd., the show’s organizer.
“MEETES, the complimentary twin event that focuses on education sector tools, is appropriately timed, with students and parents already buying items for the new academic year that has just begun. It brings together all aspects of the education sector, both from within the Kingdom and overseas,” he added.
“MEETES provides the right platform to assess opportunities through colleges and educational institutions from the US, the UK, Canada, Switzerland and Malaysia aside from the GCC states,” the spokesman said.
Switzerland has a strong presence at the MEETES, with more than 10 of its schools and institutions participating.
Among Malaysia’s participants in MEETES are Multimedia University Malaysia, and Specialist Management Resources Sdn Bhd and University of Tenaga Nasional, both based in Kuala Lumpur.
