JEDDAH, 19 September 2003 — Yasser grabbed the ball from three rivals in a rebound. He dribbled from court-to-court, eluding opposing players and dunked the ball to knot the score at 60. The crowd was still in frenzy, when Yasser took another rebound then issued an outlet pass that was not fielded by his teammates.
One more rebound and one more error, and the efforts of Yasser all went down the drain as Sijahi came up short again, losing to PCC-Accessories 62-63, for its second loss in as many games in the 11th ALJ Invitational Basketball Tournament. Sijahi, without the services of Yasser, a Saudi national player and Feras, playing in the early quarters have struggled.
In the game versus PCC-Accessories, they could only score 4 points in the first quarter, while PCC scored 24 points. The big win was doubly sweet because Tayam and Villegas, two of PCC’s best players, fouled out. Topscorers for PCC-Accessories were Delgado and Villegas who scored 19 and 18 points respectively. Faiz and Yasser paced the losers with 16 and 14 points.
In another exciting game, Mednet Gulf had the chance to send the game into overtime but couldn’t convert on the line. Mednet went down to Ambassador 63-61. Mednet played aggressively in the fourth quarter. With Coronejo scoring 9 points, Mednet came dangerously close, but couldn’t connect from the line for a possible extension. Casuga went on to score 19 points, with M. Garcia contributing 12 and Ochoa netting 11 points.
Mednet’s Pansacala and Coronejo scored 16 and 12 points respectively.
In the Inter-Division category Saptco blasted Nasrpac 68-59 to share the lead with a 2-0 slate. Danube-Snickers, on the other hand, overpowered Al-Jedaani Hospital 72-51. Topscorers for Saptco were Mamalompong and Rodil with 17 and 10 points.
In the game between Danube and Al-Jeddani, the former led early and never looked back. Banaag, who had 20 points, led two others, Alfonso and Bendicio who hit 13 and 11 points respectively. Al-Jedaani’s Orodio had 17 points, with Gonzalvo and Mallo hitting 8 points apiece.
