JEDDAH, 19 September 2003 — With the final stretch of team tennis, APO proved to be steadier in the end game and dealt AFT its 2nd loss. Joel Dela Vega and Edwin Caldona downed Rhill Macapagal and Edwin Agullana 8-5.
AFT bounced back when Boy Cornejo and Dominic Dadal bolted to 5-0 and easily dispatched Leo Dagalea and Acmad 8-5. With the score tied at 1-1, Mohammad Farsi and Pio Perdigueros worked hard to snap the skid and stormed to a 7-3 lead and the set 8-4.
In category B1, WRJ Cordero underlined their supremacy in the battle of the veterans and stalled Hempel Jaforms 2-1. Clemente Cablao with Bong Flosa wore down Al Ijran and Jun Amancio 8-1. Likewise Regie Sonosa and Ricky Torres started on the wrong foot while Rodel Rina and Mar Javaro showed tenacious brand of play to win 8-3. With the match secured, Raymond Sy and Adi Banuelos avoided a shut out, to win 8-6 against Ricky Zabate and Loy Escabusa.
In category B2, SG-Butcher rallied from a set down and banked on the heroics of Bong Siquijor and Ernie Villaruel to clinch the match 2-1. Joining SG-Butcher in the quarterfinals were KAIA, Hidada, NCB No. 2, Garuda, NCB No. 3, AFTand United Naghi Express Point.
In category C, United Naghi Express Point No. 1, blanked Kapit Bisig 3-0, to take the last slot in Group 1. Other teams that advanced in the next round includes Jeto, SPTC Vice, Tennis Starlets, TPST, SG-Butcher No. 1, Toyota ALJ, NCB No. 1, G Force, Hidada, United Naghi Express Point No. 2, Zuhair Fayez, Garuda, Box Makers, SG No. 2/SPTC and Saudi ABV.
