JEDDAH, 19 September 2003 — Marriot Hotel beat Huta Hegerfeld 68-43 in the Swatch-JBL Champions Cup Basketball Tournament at the Bin Mahfouz basketball court here.
Huta suffered offensive loss when their main man Jojo Cepeda injured his left foot in a driving lay up. Sudario scored 20 points for Marriot Hotel and was the Swatch best player of the game while Quinito topscored with 20 points for Huta Hegerfeld.
Al Nakkah Trading upset Team Islam 73-70. Team Islam almost wrapped up the victory with a commanding lead of 20 points with only 4 minutes in the fourth quarter. A weak inbound pass by Team Islam gave Al Nakkah Trading their second win in three outings. Leng Pahati topscored with 35 points for Al Nakkah Trading and was adjudged as the Giordano best player of the game while Gadri pumped 50 points for Team Islam.
Zahid Rusty Knees defeated Saudia Ice Cream 85-70. Saudia Ice Cream missed the services of their 2 tall front liners to defend against Elmer Esguerra. Arnel Quizon chipped in with 40 points for Zahid Rusty Knees and was the Swatch best player of the game while Batalier scored 22 points for Saudia Ice Cream.
In Thursday games, Salam Brothers scored back-to-back win with a 65-39 victory against UPC Thunder. Preclaro topscored with 24 points for Salam Brothers and was adjudged as the Swatch best player of the game while Dela Cruz scored 10 points for UPC Thunder.
Danny Lequin Tropahan beat Jaly Express 84-70. DeCastro chipped in with 21 points for Danny Lequin Tropahan and was the choice as the Swatch best player of the game while Bobie topscored with 24 points for Jaly Express.
United Naghi defeated Al Anjal 77-75. United Naghi with Barry Nader, Sihawi Sarip, Rick Belarmino, Aaron Mayo, Nap Solis and Estong Pelagio displayed balanced offense to outscore the Al Anjal with a powerhouse line-up of Rey Buhat and Ronald Batarao in their back court while Arnel Tablante, Jong Agustin, Daniel Bokelman, Amin Baharta, AJ Marcelino, and Rowen Villegas doing their share in the scoring department. Rick Belarmino topscored with 14 points for United Naghi and was the Swatch best player of the game while Rowen Villegas score 20 points for Al Anjal.
