ALKHOBAR, 19 September 2003 — Now in its 8th month of conducting a tournament for its members and other bowling enthusiasts in the Eastern Region, the BBC held its monthly tournament last Friday at the Al Gosaibi Hotel Bowling center with a new format.
It has now become evident that BBC is one of the most committed clubs in the arena of competitive bowling in the region. With the usual major prizes, it has introduced the WTA award. The WTA is awarded to the bowlers with the most number of pinfalls, without handicap.
It is an added attraction to bowlers who wish to try their luck and expertise without the usual handicap impasse.
Pinky Rodellas of Ilocandia Sports Club led all other participants in the ladies division with a score of 767 pinfalls against her nearest rival, Guy Domingo with 756 points. Domingo is member of Filbowler and heads the Filbowler, Ladies Division. Mariel Dungo, also a member of Filbowler bags the 2nd runner up award with 733 points.
Rodellas led the 4-game series early on with 173 points in the first game and continued her winning streak with a high 194 pinfalls in the third. She also won the WTA award. Rodellas’ current year rating includes four BBC championship crowns and three Filbowler championship awards plus a number of runner-ups honors to her credit. She is a member of the BBC, Filbowler and an officer of the Ilocandia Sports Club, Saudi Arabia.
Other winners in the top ten category were: Emma Santos, Lucy Evangelista, Marites Hussein, Ness Miranda, Ema Sumalabe, Ging Bajo and Ayeth Aranas.
In the men’s category, Cris Manuel of BBC garnered 754 points to win the championship glory while Monching Vistada’s 590 points landed him the 1st runner up position and Eugene Bongon’s 701 points garnered him the 2nd runner up prize.
Manuel, a hard-striking bowler, scored 214 and 211 points in the first and second game respectively and held on to his lead till the end of the game with a 168 pinfall in the finale. Other winners in the top 10 list were: Jonyl Cabrera, Rey Labiano, BJ Bajo, Edgar Ancheta, Danny Sumalabe, Jun Onquit and AK Rodellas.
In other news, Abner Galinato, sports coordinator of the Ilocandia Sports Club, announced the upcoming tournament tentatively scheduled for Nov. 25 & 26 at the Al Gosaibi Hotel Bowling Center.
