RIYADH, 26 September 2003 — Bilateral trade between the Kingdom and the Republic of China shot up to reach $2.25 billion. This is an increase of 78.95 percent during the first six months of this year, according to Lai Wei Kunc, economic counselor at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office. A 33-member trade delegation from Taiwan arrived in Jeddah today.
The trade mission represents a diverse range of products from Taiwan’s top computer and information technology industry, machinery, electric and electronics, medical and healthcare, auto and motorcycle parts, textiles and the construction sector, among others. It has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, and China External Trade Development Council (CETRA).Lai said the Kingdom was Taiwan’s biggest market in the Middle East. It imported $167.74 million worth of goods from Taiwan (up 3.96 percent,) while its exports to the ROC stood at $2.08 billion (up 89.98 percent over the same period of 2002).
An exhibition of Taiwanese products will be held in Jeddah from Sept. 27 to 29 and in Riyadh from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.
