RIYADH, 3 October 2003 — The Arab News Orange team represented by Grades 5 and 6 parents of the Second Philippine International School (SPIS) recorded their third win at the expense of the unbeaten Prep School team, 71-63 in the First SPIS Invitational Basketball Tournament held at their Cover Court here. The dynamic performance of Lito Panugan, Rodel Salvatiera, John Herrera, Gerry Ayonon, Jessie Torralba and Nelson Buan powered the Arab News Orange Team of coach Tony Baltazar to break the Prep School boys winning streak headed by Dan Alcantara, Jet Olmedo, Peter Poliguit, Eric Mallamar, Gerry Lazaro, Bernie Vincent and Andy Bagaoisan.
Arab News’ previous outing with the SPIS Faculty and Staff (Piranhas) saw Rodel Salvatiera leading the way to spearhead his team’s scoreboard.
Teammates Ed Relox contributed two three-point shots during the third canto and the output of John Arizo paved the way for the Orange team’s first victory.
Prior to their recent encounter, the Arab News team got their second back-to-back win off the 3rd and 4th year students (Falcons) with the acrobatic play of John Herrera demolishing the Falcons in overtime play. The overtime scenario saw the Orange boyz teamwork jell. Aggressive performance came from Rodel Salvatiera, John Herrera, Nelson Buan, Mario Careno, Lito Panugan and Jessie Torralba.
